Maher bin Hamad Al Mueaqly


Maher bin Hamad Al Mueaqly  born January 7, 1969,[2] is the Imam of the Grand Mosque in the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia and a renowned Recitor of the Holy Quran.

Personal life

Sheikh Maher's mother and father moved to Madinah and he was born there as well. Maher's father belonged to an old Arab tribe. His mother was a Pakistani immigrant.[3] The sheikh is married and has four children: two boys and two girls.[4]

Education

He memorized the whole quran in Madinah and he was taught in the class of many scholars who are respected worldwide in Madinah. He began his Sheikh career in the North of The Kingdom Of Saudia. He was taught extensivley in mathematics until he began teaching it aswell.In 2004, Maher Al Mueaqly got a Masters in Shariaa from Umm Al Qura University. While he was a lecturer in the Shariaa and Islamic Sciences Faculty.[5]

Career

He returned to Makkah in 2004 and started to preach and recite in Al-Balaat Mosque.After becoming loved by the people he was chosen to become an advisor to Prince Abdul-Majid in Makkah. He began to teach Quran in Makkah before he began teaching at King Abdullah Saud University. He was promised before Ramadan the he would lead taraweeh prayers in Madinah for the years 2005 and 2006, so he did. He has led prayers in the grand mosque in Madina known as Masjid an-Nabawi. He has led taraweeh prayers in the years 2005-2006.He was appointed Imam in Masjidul Haram,Makkah in the year 2007. Since then he has been leading taraweeh with Sheikh Abdullah Awad Al Juhany.There is a TV satellite station named Al Arabab with his name featuring his recitals.[6] He recites beautifully and is a well-known imam.
